Hike to Blomsterdalshøgda and the Svalbard Global Seed Vault

Blomsterdalshøgda is one of the most popular mountains to hike around Longyearbyen and is situated close to the Svalbard Global Seed Vault which is one of the town’s most famous buildings. Join us for a combined trip to both and enjoy a calm hike, good views and a stop at the seed vault all in one trip! Our guide will pick you up outside your accommodation before driving out of town along Adventfjorden. We’ll park the car and start our hike up towards Blomsterdalshøgda. This is a calm hike in gentle terrain which gradually gets steeper towards the top at 300 meters above sea level. Once at the top we’ll sit down with some hot drinks and cookies to take in the panoramic view of both the fjord and surrounding mountains. We’ll take our time before heading down the mountain and back to our car. It’s a short drive before we reach to the Svalbard Global Seed Vault from our parking spot, and once at the seed vault we’ll walk over to experience the vault’s iconic entrance structure up close. There’s no lack of fascinating details and facts to share about this facility which plays an important international role in securing the worlds food safety. The seed vault is the last stop on our trip before heading back to town where our guide will drop you off at your accommodation. What you’ll experience and do on this trip: - A nicely combined half-day trip with a calm hike to a mountain top on foot and sightseeing at the Svalbard Global Seed Vault. - View of Longyearbyen’s surroundings. Important information: - It is not possible to enter the Svalbard Global Seed Vault. Our visit at the seed vault site is outdoors where we’ll see the entrance building up close. - Remember to wear good hiking boots. - We recommend warm clothing such as woollen underwear, woollen socks, windproof outer clothing and extra gloves. - We recommend a small backpack to carry your camera, an extra sweater and something cold to drink. - For safety reasons, the route may change due to weather, wind and underfoot conditions.
