Why choose only one perspective on Svalbard’s history? This exclusive combination tour pairs an easy walk on the tundra with a spectacular scenic drive to some of the best viewpoints overlooking Adventdalen and the surrounding mountain peaks. Part 1: Walk in Endalen (In the footsteps of Mine 5) We start the day with an easy, flat walk along the valley floor of Endalen. Here, we walk beneath the old aerial cableway supports and get up close to the historic surface facilities of Mine 5, dating back to the 1960s. On this peaceful walk, we often see Svalbard reindeer grazing against a backdrop of old mining ruins. Part 2: Panoramic tour to Mine 6 and 7 After a relaxing walk, we hop in the car and shift from historical exploration to grand sightseeing. We drive deeper into Adventdalen and begin our ascent: Mine 6: We pass the mighty ruins on the mountainside. The guide shares stories about the mine's significance for the post-war industrial boom up until its closure in 1981. Mine 7: We drive all the way up to the mountain plateau to the region's final coal mine, providing a unique intensity and connection to the modern age. The viewpoint: The perfect photo stop! From here, you can enjoy a raw, panoramic view of Adventdalen, the Arctic landscape, and the dramatic mountain peaks on the other side of the fjord.
