RIB Safari Along the Ice Edge

Experience the transition from winter to summer together with us out at sea! In our open RIB-boat we’ll cross Isfjorden and head towards the northwestern bays in the fjord where the ice edge, distant glaciers and a beautiful mountainous landscape await us. Our guide will pick you up from your accommodation and bring you to our activity centre for a pre-trip briefing and kit you out with safety and floatation equipment for the trip, plus a waterproof bag for your phone or a small camera. With all our equipment we’ll drive over to the port where we’ll jump on board our boat for the day, and after going through the on-board safety instructions, we’ll leave Longyearbyen behind and head out for our adventure! Today’s goal is to experience the edge of the sea ice left in front of one of the glaciers in the area. Both the sea and ice changes from day to day, making every day an adventure. This trip does not have a fixed destination, meaning that the route for the day will be decided based on the day’s conditions. Once we’ve arrived at the ice edge, we’ll slow down to enjoy the Arctic calm with the background sounds of ice flakes dipping in the fjord, the calls of the birdlife and the waves against the boat. We’ll enjoy our warm expedition lunch on board by the ice edge while keeping our eyes open for wildlife. Even though the ice edge may look barren at first glance there’s always a possibility that we might spot wildlife such as seals or walrus enjoying life on the ice. In these beautiful surroundings we’ll take in the views while listening to our guide’s stories before heading back towards Longyearbyen again. It may be cold out on the fjord early in the season until mid-June which is why this trip is deemed suitable for travellers with at least average physical fitness. We recommend that you wear warm clothing under the floatation suit and boots.
