What You Can Look Forward To: We pick you up from your hotel and drive to to "Skjæringa". In this area we find Svalbard church, the cable station, and the iconic cable towers that once transported coal from Longyeardalen to Hotellneset. From here we set off on our hike. Along the way, we’ll take time to share stories about the town and the people who have shaped this unique place. You’ll hear about John Munro Longyear’s time in Svalbard, and how Longyearbyen eventually became a part of Norway. After a steep hike, we will reach Varden, which offers a fantastic view over Longyearbyen and Adventfjorden. We’ll take a short break here before continuing the final stretch to the summit — the highlight of the hike. The trail includes some steep sections and is suitable for those with a normal level of fitness. Remember to wear sturdy hiking boots and pack a windproof jacket to use at the top. A small daypack with water and an extra layer of clothing is also recommended.
